Attitude Adjustment

I am a HUGE list maker and love marking things off my to-do list. I have been known to write things down that I have already did just to have the satisfaction of crossing that item off. I would add 10, 15, or even up to 20 items on my to-do list each day. By afternoon I was becoming overwhelmed by not completing everything on my list. I mean I am superwoman, right?

I did not like that my to-do list started to control my emotions. If I had items left on my list that I knew I couldn’t finish I became grouchy. Somehow I felt like a failure. The feeling of “I cannot complete anything” would set in. I know it sounds silly, but those who live for the to-do list can relate. Marking off items on a to-do list shows accomplishment.

One morning I woke up and decided just to take the day as it came. No to-do list.  I guess we could call this an experiment. I wanted to see how I was without having to live by the “the list.”  I was shocked at how well our day went and how my attitude was by the end of the day. I did not have my list to show my accomplishment for that day, but my relaxed, content, happy, attitude showed it all.

After a couple days of no list I became a little overwhelmed and felt like I was always forgetting something. I decided to make a to-do list each day with only a few items on it and explain each item specifically. Instead of saying “all laundry” I would write down three loads of laundry; that way if something arose and I couldn’t complete all the laundry I wouldn’t feel defeated.

What a difference this has made! I feel accomplished each day. I guess you can say that I have had an attitude adjustment.

I feel like superwoman…..

  2. That's wonderful. I write down a list of 'to dos" at the beginning of the week. I do the ones that have to be done each day and let the rest of the day flow as God leads.
    Thanks for the lovely post.
    Following you at Gratitude Tuesday.
